Care Instructions

CARING FOR YOUR GEORGIAN BAY BOARDS & CLASSIC CHARCUTERIE BOARDS

The uses for our boards are endless! Perfect for serving your favourite cheese, charcuterie and appetizers. They also make the perfect table runner or centre piece when not in use. Some people even hang their pieces as wall art.

CLEAN.

Wash surface lightly with soft (non-abrasive), damp cloth -use only warm water and a diluted, mild dish detergent. Pat dry and then let it air dry completely.

Apply a thin coat of our BACKWOOD BUTTER with your hand or a paper towel and then buff gently with a non-abrasive cloth or paper towel. Never submerge any of your wood pieces in water. Do not put in the dishwasher.

For best results, apply a thin layer of BACKWOOD BUTTER before AND after food use. To keep your wood piece from splitting or cracking, it's important to keep it coated lightly in BACKWOOD BUTTER and away from excessive heat and sunlight.

CARE.
  • Always follow the care instructions above

  • For extra protection from greasy and oily foods, we always recommend applying a thin coat of our BACKWOOD BUTTER before AND after food use

  • These pieces are meant for display and serving- not as cutting boards. While you can cut on the wood, we do not recommend cutting on the artwork feature of your Georgian Bay Board- cutting on the epoxy will cause your knives to dull and can scratch the artwork.

  • You can cut on the wood surface on any of our serving pieces- the finish we use on all our pieces is 100% food-safe and is more resistant to scratches than a beeswax/mineral oil finish on it's own. Although we don't use a beeswax/mineral oil to finish our pieces, we do retail our BACKWOOD BUTTER in order for you to easily maintain your piece at home. You can also use it for all the other wood pieces you may already have such as wooden salad bowls, butcher blocks, children cribs & wooden toys, etc.

  • When storing or shipping with bubble wrap, always put a layer of tissue paper between the piece and the bubble wrap to protect the wood and epoxy

CARING FOR YOUR HAND FORGED KNIVES

Meant for cutting charcuterie meats, semi-firm cheese and  spreading soft cheeses. Great gift idea to pair with one of our handcrafted serving boards

CLEAN.
Wash steel surfaces lightly with soft cloth using warm water and a diluted, mild dish detergent. Dry completely with a dish towel and then let it air dry for a few minutes. Once dry, apply thin coating of olive oil or our BACKWOOD BUTTER to steel surfaces only. Using a paper towel, remove excess oil and store in dry location. Always dry your knife completely and coat lightly in oil before storing or it will rust. Do not submerge in water. Do not put in dishwasher

CARE.
After each use, follow cleaning instructions above. Apply a thin coating of olive oil or BACKWOOD BUTTER and remove excess with a paper towel before storing.
Please note, these reclaimed knives are carbon steel- not stainless steel. They will rust if not properly cared for. Knives are sharp, but are not intended for hard/firm cheeses.
