"Thank you all so much for your support!

Due to the high demand for my Georgian Bay Boards®, it has been a constant struggle to keep up with inventory. My dream is to grow this little business and I want to thank you for bearing with me as I work through the growing pains that come along with it. I am so excited to share that I've just hired my first team member (I hate the word employee) and I am beyond excited for her to join the Backwood Family next week!

Each piece is made by hand- from the wood that I use as my canvas to the hand-painted epoxy artwork on each of my Georgian Bay Boards®. I work diligently to make as many pieces as possible in each new batch, but I will never sacrifice quality for quantity. The reason I put so much care into each piece is because I love to see the reaction on your face or get your message when you receive it! You truly value the care and time that goes into each one and you know it's a one-of-a-kind piece of functional art that you and your family will cherish for generations.

Backwood Design Co. began as a passion project. My husband, Brad, and I began handcrafting unique, live edge furniture for our family and our own home in 2016. Back then, Brad and I loved going out to the shop to experiment with wood and epoxy in any spare time we could find. Shortly after we started making furniture, I found we had a lot of off-cut pieces of wood that were too small to use for any of our furniture, even for side tables. I picked out some of the nicest pieces and started making cheeseboards on my own as gifts for family.

We both worked full-time, Brad as an Electrician and I was previously an Executive Assistant. Before that, I was an Account Manager... Chef, Interior Designer and even an Aesthetician at one point with a little home spa... OH yes, you read that all right! Also, my dad and brother are contractors with their own businesses, so I was no stranger to lumber and power tools when I started out- I even spent a year working with them doing home renovations and building decks & fences. Needless to say... it has taken me a long time to discover what I was truly meant to do with my life & career. A few years ago, at 28 years old, I still wondered then what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I always knew it would be something that would allow me to work with my hands and get creative!

In May 2018, Backwood Design Co. was officially established. Fast forward to May 2019, one year later... Brad and I still love making custom furniture together and my trademark line of Georgian Bay Boards® is now sold in almost 30 Ontario retailers and one in British Columbia. They have even shipped all over the world! I've sent pieces to every Canadian province and have even reached homes and businesses in United States, Germany, Norway, Brazil, UK, Australia and Sweden. This still blows my mind!

It's true what they say about supporting a small business- I actually do a little "happy dance" every time I sell a piece or get a new retailer. It's a pretty incredible feeling to have so many amazing people behind you rooting for your success!

It's always been my dream to have my own full-time business! It might sound cliché, but if you're passionate about something and you have big dreams, don't ever stop chasing them. I've always believed that if you want something bad enough- you have go get it!

I couldn't do what I love everyday without you all and can't thank you enough for your continued support.

Sincerely and from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

Much love,

Lindsay
